SEO Packages for Small Business: What to Expect, What It Costs, and What to Avoid

A solid SEO package for a small business usually runs between $800 and $2,500 a month. The price should change based on hours and backlinks, not on how much quality you get. At Kendall Development, every package covers SEO strategy, technical SEO, web design, new landing pages, and conversion tools like booking systems, all on one bill and with no long-term contract. That combination is why BBB Seed saw conversions jump 238% within 30 days of our first round of changes. Below is what a package should include, what it costs, and the red flags to avoid.

Five parts of a small business SEO package: research, keywords and on-page SEO, technical SEO, web design and conversion, and local SEO

What a Small Business SEO Package Should Include

A real SEO package starts with understanding your business, not with a list of keywords. Here's what should be inside.

Research on Your Business, Audience, and Competitors

Before anything changes on your website, the work should cover:

  • Your product or service and business model: what you sell, which services bring in the most profit, and how a visitor turns into a paying customer.

  • Your target audience: who is searching, the words they use, and what convinces them to call or book.

  • Competitor research: who ranks right now, what they do well, and where they leave gaps you can take.

We start every campaign here. The process is the same for every client, but every campaign ends up different, because every website, niche, and audience is different.

Keyword Strategy and On-Page SEO

This is where research turns into action. It includes keyword research mapped to the right pages, optimized titles and meta descriptions, a clear heading structure, content improvements, and internal links. A good package doesn't limit how many keywords or pages get this treatment. It covers whatever your business actually needs.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO makes sure Google can find, crawl, and understand your site. That means site speed, mobile performance, indexing issues, broken links, redirects, and site structure. Nobody sees this work, but weak technical SEO quietly holds back everything else.

Web Design, Landing Pages, and Conversion Tools

This is where most SEO packages fall short. The most common problem I see with new clients is a website that simply doesn't work. Some mediocre SEO was done, but it was done by SEO people, not web designers. Rankings mean little if the site can't turn visitors into leads.

That's why our packages include designing new landing pages when they're needed and installing functionality that improves conversion rates, like booking systems. You deal with one team and one bill instead of an SEO agency and a web designer pointing fingers at each other.

Here's why this matters. A painting contractor we work with had a fully optimized Wix site bringing in close to 1,000 qualified visitors and 10 to 25 leads a month. He hired a $1,200 freelancer for a redesign, someone with zero SEO experience. His traffic disappeared overnight, and he came back to us about a month later. When design and SEO are handled together, the opposite happens. A 10-page site we rebuilt on Wix for a Medicare insurance broker, with SEO built in from day one, picked up 350 new keywords in the first month and a half after launch.

Affordable Local SEO Services for Boca Raton and Palm Beach County Businesses

If your customers are nearby, local SEO should be part of the plan. Ask any provider how they will help you show up in Google Maps and local results. That covers your Google Business Profile, consistent business information across the web, reviews, and service pages that speak to the areas you serve. For a salon in Boca Raton or a contractor serving all of Palm Beach County, local visibility is often where the first leads come from.

How Much Do SEO Packages for Small Business Cost?

Most small business SEO packages fall between $800 and $2,500 a month. Large national agencies often start well above that range.

Every tier gets the same research, the same process, and the same quality of work. We don't cap the number of pages we optimize or keywords we research, because that's not how a proper SEO campaign works. The higher the investment, the more hours we put into your campaign.

There's also no minimum commitment. You can cancel anytime. We do recommend giving any SEO campaign at least six months, and the timeline section below explains why.

Why Backlinks Are the Only Thing That Should Scale With Price

Backlinks are links from other websites to yours, and quality backlinks usually cost money. That cost goes directly into the campaign, so it's the one item that makes sense to cap by budget. Every link we build is a quality one, not a cheap link from a spammy site that can hurt you.

Not every business needs backlinks right away. When yours doesn't, we put that budget into on-page SEO instead, so none of your investment sits idle.

Affordable SEO vs. Cheap SEO: Where the Line Is

Affordable SEO is fair pricing for reliable, quality work. Cheap SEO is a low price for work that won't move anything. The old, easy SEO techniques are gone. Stuffing keywords into a page or buying a pile of low-quality links doesn't build rankings that last anymore.

When you compare low cost SEO services for small business, the real question isn't "what's the lowest price?" It's "what will this money actually change on my website and in my leads?"

Red Flags in Low-Cost SEO Packages

  • Caps on keywords or pages tied to your budget. This focuses on quantity, not quality. A campaign should cover what your business needs, not a number on a pricing sheet.

  • Low-quality backlinks sold in bulk. A large number of links from irrelevant or spammy sites can do more harm than good.

  • Long lock-in contracts. If the provider is confident in the work, they shouldn't need to trap you.

  • SEO with no one touching design or conversion. If nobody can fix the pages that lose visitors, rankings won't turn into leads.

  • Promises of fast results. Real SEO takes months, especially for a site starting from zero.

How Long Does SEO Take for a Small Business?

It depends on where your website is starting from.

SEO timeline from first progress at month 3 to stronger results at months 6 to 8, plus BBB Seed results of +7% traffic and +238% conversions in 30 days

Starting From Zero

For a small business with no SEO history, we usually see progress after month three. Depending on the industry, niche, and audience, stronger results come in around six to eight months.

An Established Site and Brand

If your website already has traffic and your brand is known, results can show up as soon as we make a significant change. In my experience, that change is often a website remodel, because the site itself is usually what's holding the business back.

BBB Seed is a good example. Their website was already bringing in about 20,000 visitors a month when we started the campaign. Within 30 days of our first round of changes, traffic grew by a modest 7%. Conversions, though, jumped 238%, because the previous design was turning visitors away.

That's the kind of SEO we do. We focus on return, not just keywords and rankings. Sometimes the biggest return doesn't come from rankings at all, but from fixing how the website turns visitors into customers. Technically, that's conversion rate optimization. For a business owner, it's all part of the same goal: more customers from the traffic you already have.

When a Small Business Shouldn't Buy SEO Yet

SEO isn't right for every business at every moment. Hold off if:

  • You can't stay patient for at least six months. Pulling out at month two usually means paying for the groundwork without getting the results.

  • You're expecting SEO to save your business. SEO is the channel that brings a consistent, reliable source of leads over time when it's done right. It isn't an emergency fix.

Think of it like getting in shape. You don't lose 100 pounds and get a six-pack in three months, then keep it forever without effort. Good SEO works the same way. It takes time and consistent work, and then it keeps paying off.

How to Choose the Right SEO Agency for Your Small Business

Whether you're comparing an SEO agency, an SEO company, or an SEO consultant for small business, ask these questions before you sign:

  • Will you research my competitors, my audience, and my business model before making changes?

  • Do you cap the number of pages or keywords based on my budget?

  • Who handles design changes, new landing pages, or tools like booking systems?

  • What happens to the backlink budget if my site doesn't need links yet?

  • How will you measure success: rankings and keywords, or leads and revenue?

  • Is there a minimum contract, and what happens if I want to cancel?

  • What timeline do you expect for my type of business, and why?

Clear, direct answers are a good sign. Vague answers or a hard sell on a long contract are not. Google's own guide, Do you need an SEO?, recommends the same kind of vetting before you hire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not with us. Our SEO packages have no minimum commitment, and you can cancel anytime. We do recommend staying at least six months, because that's when most campaigns start showing real results.

A one-time SEO update ($800 to $3,000 at Kendall Development) fixes your foundation once, and you decide when to do it. A monthly package keeps building over time with ongoing keyword work, content, technical fixes, and backlinks. If you want SEO to become a steady source of leads, a monthly package is usually the better fit.

No. A tool gives you data or automated content, but someone still has to build the strategy, fix the website, and make sure visitors turn into customers. A package is a team doing that work for you.

Yes. About 90% of the websites we build are on Wix, and as a Wix Partner we've built more than 500 websites. When a Wix site isn't ranking, the platform is rarely the problem. How the site was built and optimized usually is.

Local SEO focuses on customers near you, such as people searching for a service in Boca Raton or "near me," and it shows up in Google Maps and local results. Regular SEO targets broader searches that aren't tied to one location. Many small businesses need both.
